Polyfos advances AM technology using MaterialsZone.

September 23, 2024

MaterialsZone speeds prototype development and process optimization.

Introduction

Polyfos, a young startup, is pioneering multi-material polymer additive manufacturing by enabling the simultaneous printing of parts using two different polymers. From the beginning, they partnered with MaterialsZone to document and standardize their research despite having no prior data and facing the pressure of a short development timeline. This collaboration has led to significant achievements, including a fivefold increase in material hardness and rapid optimization of their printing process through AI-guided experiments. As they grow, Polyfos continues to push the limits of dual-material printing technology.

Background

Polyfos is developing a multi-material polymer additive manufacturing technology that allows printing parts using two different polymer materials. Before they even had a lab and materials to work with, they contracted MaterialsZone to document and standardize their research process from the first day. As new team members joined the organization, they, too, were added to the platform and continued to document their experiments there.

Objective

To develop a binary formulation consisting of a hard water-insoluble material and a soft water-soluble material that can be printed simultaneously via a Digital Light Processing process.
